ZNES Students Go On "Man" Hunt

All kids love cookies, it’s a simple, well-known fact, but what happens when that cookie comes to life and escapes? The answer is easy! Zapata North Elementary Kindergarten classes go on a “man hunt” around town to capture the escaped Gingerbread Man.
For their annual hunt around town the four Kindergarten teachers (Raquel Martinez, Araceli Martinez, Frances Garcia, and Francisca Campos) along with their teacher aides (Dora Bustamante, Carla Vela, Elisa Ramos, and Patty Luera) took the students to the local IBC, public library, courthouse, and Los Pasteles Bakery to hunt the sweet treat down after searching the school’s nurse’s office, library, gym, office and counselor’s office.
Teachers first read the story to each of their classes. This year’s version of the Gingerbread Man was “The Gingerbread Man Loose in School” and “Gingerbread Man Superhero!” . At the same time, someone drops gingerbread crumbs along the hallways for the kids to find as clues as to where their favorite come-to-life treat has gone. Through their search the kids learn the layout of their school, as well as, local businesses.
At the end of their school search, the children are usually devastated and full of wonder when they find he isn’t on campus. The following day, the search continues to different local buildings, where they are greeted by their staff. Their final clue leads them to the local bakery where the students are allowed into the kitchen to make their own gingerbread man.
